Wow, Just wow, why is my household electricity bill so high?

Reluctantly paid it in full.
$26.45 for 2 months. 😄

I'm sure you must have heard it discussed endlessly on news and current affairs programs.
Because of the world-wide boycott of Russian fossil fuels, there's a short supply, especially in Europe.
The Middle Eastern Countries have so far refused to increase supply, presumably so they can benefit from the higher prices for the duration of the war in Ukraine.

Australia is getting it's highest prices ever, with the exception of WA which had a prior arrangement in place to ensure that West Australians pay a fair price for their own resources. All the other states have been forced to pay the same rates as Europe to keep their electricity supplies flowing.
It's got so costly that poorer people are simply turning off their power supplies.
People with decent incomes are installing batteries to go off grid with the solar arrays on their roofs. A basic minimum unit of five batteries costs about $1500 plus a bit extra for the labour.

Oz's federal Labour Govt has just completed a deal with all the states which will start in 2023, last for a year, and be extended and tweeked if necessary. It will pay half the excess (whatever is above the usual cost of their average usage) on the normal seasonal bill for any household dependent on welfare, and the states will pay the other half. This might later include low income earners.
