Once again the assistance is incorrect, I'm not sure if the government does this on purpose. I'd like to think if you take care in a normal sized home your energy bill will not breach that figure (£2500), if on the other hand you own a mansion, stately home or palace the capped figure will allow a nice respite from your large bills.

@GeniUs the cap is on the per therm price. So if you have a small thermo insulated home vs a drafted huge mansion the differential stays the same. It isn't that there is a cap on a total annual bill. They quote the annual average bill figure to show the difference between various previous cap prices.

Edit - its a median bill projection not an average

@OldBrit I've read a couple of articles and haven't seen that detail, do you have a source article?

The Energy Price Guarantee limits the amount you can be charged per unit of gas or electricity, so your exact bill amount will continue to be influenced by how much energy you use.

@OldBrit Fair enough. For it to be reported as:
"Liz Truss announces energy bills will be fixed for two years at £2.5k for a typical home. " (BBC)
"Liz Truss to freeze energy bills at £2,500 a year average, funded by borrowing" (The Guardian)
Is wrong.

@GeniUs I agree but it is the usual dumbing down and poor explanation through the media, largely as I believe these days most of those reporting are there for reasons other than their intelligence.

Though to be fair the Guardian does say "average" which is basically true.
