The Characters of Jean de La Bruyere

I love this book and as a testament to it's worth even the introduction which is sampled here, is full of wonderful thoughts to be thinking about. Perhaps it's because i'm completely devoid of some of the social graces such as the ability to converse at length that it speaks so much to me, as it shows how it ought to be, and even in the 1600s when this was composed there were difficulties to doing and enjoying things as they ought to be, fast forward to today, and it should be commonly held that the basic rudimentary nature of these social graces have devolved mightily. I also think of how books such as this could be used to build society back up from a decimated rubble state.
