Y'all these haunted lights are blowing my mind. I just bought a new dvd player & volume up makes the lights blink... wtf??

That shows you have a loose connection.

Intermittent issues are the worst to diagnose / find.

Did they seem a little loose? Sometimes the metal clips get bad.
