I use one at my bush camp. It connects my generator to an outlet which powers my camp.
Is it dangerous? If you unplug it while the generator is running, yes.

@LunarOrbit Why would the receiving end have a female connector?

@Elessar In my case, the receiving end is an exterior outlet (female receptacle) on my camp. My generator is a distance away in the bush. The cable from the generator to the camp has two male ends…one making the connection at the generator, one making connection at the camp.
Because the unit is not hard wired, (portable generator) there has to be a male/female connection somewhere.
I agree its not safe if the male ended cable is exposed while live. Thats why connections are made before running generator.
