What would you do with such a huge hospital debt?

I owe a Palm Springs hospital many thousands and insurance isn't covering the bulk of it. What would you do? I'm literally drowning in debt right now.

As far as I know, about the only thing you can do is in writing (a letter) state you cannot pay the bills above what yoru Medicare/Medicaid plan has reimbursed them (the service provider). Two things will then (likely) happen. One, some part of the bill(s) will be written off by some of the providers and two, you will get offers for payment plans. You can negotiate on how much you can pay each service provider.

Going forward take a very close look at the Medicare plan (other than standard medicare) you have chosen. All of them, every last one of them pay less than what medicare will pay - that's how they make money. I did that and found I got better coverage (much better) with a wider selection of service providers by keeping the standard government medicare program. In fact it has been so much better that after just short of 3 years of cancer treatments, surgeries to remove the tumor, long, complicated and expensive chemo and infection control therapy, two long rehabs and three logn home health program visits, I had to pay out of pocket a total of $357 on over a quarter million dollars of charges.
@Ontheroad Thanks you for a very valuable post. I will remember this and hopefully it will make a difference. I should have NEVER dropped my medi-cal in favor of "wellcare" big mistake.
