How long does it generally take for you to stop hurting about being hurt?

In a (failed) relationship context.

I feel like two months is excessive, but here I am still
Everyone is different. Everyone experiences loss different. My first ex husband was a very short marriage ( 3 years) but he ripped my heart out. I was young. Only 18 when I married him. There will still be times when I think of him and get sad but the pain is WAY less. Another love that was killed in a wreck. It's been a lot of years. Pain is less
But it still surfaces. It probably always will pop up occasionally but it's something I can manage..think about. Cry a bit and then think about what good times I can and smile and move on

@Bexsy I'm so sorry for your losses 😔 connection with others can be terribly painful
AllelujahHaptism · 36-40, M
depends on how invested you are, for me atleast
AllelujahHaptism · 36-40, M
@caccoon nah its not that kinda thing haha
caccoon · 36-40
@AllelujahHaptism if it's bothering you still, therapy can be super helpful 💙
AllelujahHaptism · 36-40, M
@caccoon its not such a big thing here haha dont worry about it though :p
It depends on how emotionally invested I was in the relationship. It'a gone from a couple of weeks to over a year.
caccoon · 36-40
@MrBlueGuy true, they're all different
@caccoon It depends how they end too. Some relationships are long dead before they are officially over and ending them is more of a formality...but then sometimes you still have a lot of feelings for someone even if you know you can't be with them and those ones take a bit longer to get over.
caccoon · 36-40
@MrBlueGuy that's very true
There are different levels of hurt. I may be able to function after a few days or weeks, but the last part can take years for sure and probably decades.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
It really depends on the relationship. Usually anywhere from six months to a year and a half or so. 🤔
caccoon · 36-40
@thepreposterouspanda it does depend on the relationship, it's true
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
Took me years 🫤
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
@caccoon oh yeah, I just stay single to avoid that junk
caccoon · 36-40
@MyNameIsHurl I feel like I need to do the same. It's too painful and I'm just terrible at relationships really

I just have this very intense desire for one 😔
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
@caccoon me too, until I remember how horrible they are, hahaha.
Years. Last time I cried over my ex was last year and we ended things about 5 years ago.
caccoon · 36-40
@Nadie I'm so sorry 😔
Ideally, no relation is permanent enough to sustain forever coz life itself is Not forever.
OnePatheticClown · 51-55, M
🤔 The only time that it really hurt, was years for it to stop...
caccoon · 36-40
@OnePatheticClown painful 😔

Short term a few days maybe a week

Long term it’ll be a while could take years
InHeaven · F
Years. Two months is nothing
caccoon · 36-40
@InHeaven you're right, it's not. But the relationship was only nine months and he cheated so I feel like I shouldn't give a fuck
InHeaven · F
Yup@caccoon the sooner you let it go the better for you
I think it takes three years..
caccoon · 36-40
@SStarfish I hope it won't be that long...
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Everyone gets over things in their own time. I think it’s worse because this guy was such a dick with the cheating.

You didn’t deserve that, any of it. I hope you get past it soon because he doesn’t deserve to have anymore space in your head.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@caccoon yes you will and you will forget about him with time.

That’s a nice feeling to get rid of stuff.
caccoon · 36-40
@iamonfire696 I will, I am excited for when thinking of him doesn't make me feel sadness pangs. When I can just recognize that he wasn't really very good to me (or for me) at all
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@caccoon I am excited for you to feel that way too 💞
