When I was small and would become afraid of ghosts or aliens, my mum would tell me, "They're not real."

So I'd think that, as I was in the dark.

But then I would erase that thought and push it away and apologise to the ghosts and aliens for pretending they're not real.

I didn't want to upset them

This is adorable.
Although, I can't relate. My mum would see any fear as an invitation to tell me weird ass stories. Like the time her grandma apparently saw someone turn into a goat or something and I'm like thanks mum☺️ I'll share this gem with my kids too one day.
