@updown2020 That literally means "learn to study or spank yourself." But I guess that might be one option. ;) :D

@updown2020 That's what I thought. There are much nicer phrases than a literal translation, though. I would probably say "An die Arbeit!" and "Oder es setzt gehörig etwas." It doesn't translate too well, but roughly: "Start working! Or you'll get it properly."

A more simple sentence might be "Ich werde dich verprügeln." (I will spank you).

Mind you that German has no direct word for spanking and the different German words relating to it all may have different subtext. For example, versohlen is perceived as less harsh than verprügeln... :)

And what do you learn from this? Never let that language teacher ramble on and on and on... ;)

@Uncle Really German's do not have a word for spanking well I guess you have words that mean the same thing . I guess each culture is different. Well do German people get spanked? If so how?

@updown2020 We have no one word, yes, we have several. verhauen, versohlen, verprügeln as verbs, eine Tracht Prügel, ein Hinternvoll, Schläge, Hiebe, Dresche, Senge as nouns. All with slightly different connotations.

Spanking children in all contexts is banned here. It was abolished in school three to four decades ago,depending on the state. More adult forms of spanking no doubt exist.

@Uncle Okay just because the state say's you cannot spank your kids does that mean it does not go on but no one talks about it or it just does not go on at all?

In state schools it has definitely stopped completely. I should know, I have been there both sides of the ban. As for what happens in families, I would have to guess. Anything really severe definitely does not happen anymore. As a home tutor I might or might not see things, but I would never comment on that.
