I have a rare condition called synesthesia. I see colors when I hear sounds. Not surprisingly it's more evident when listening to music or perhaps during a thunderstorm. To me it seems perfectly normal and is not distracting since I was born with it. ,

@MoveAlong that's pretty awesome

@SW-User LOL, I saw what you said there. As a matter of fact I can see anything you say.

@MoveAlong what did I do
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
@SW-User I assumed since you used all CAPS you were yelling at me. I actually thought you were playing off the fact that I can see sounds. I know others who have this condition and it's kind of an inside joke if something makes a loud noise to say "did you see that".

@MoveAlong oh lol I’ve never met another synesthetic

@SW-User What type do you have?
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@MoveAlong I have it too. All numbers and letters have a certain colour assigned to them

@Jenny1234 It's amazing how many people haven't heard of this. I guess because it's not super rare and nearly everyone with it lives a completely normal life. When did you notice you were different. I was somewhere around four and learning my colors. A really strong thunderstorm rolled in and when a boomer would go off I asked my mom, what color was that? It took quite a long time, maybe a year, until she realized something was up with my hearing and vision.

Congrats, I think it's cool.

@MoveAlong I remember being in grade 3 or 4 and sitting at my dining room table and taking my pencil crayons and writing out the alphabet and the numbers in the colours that corresponds with each of them in my mind. It was the same colour over and over again and my mother said What is this that you’re always doing with the letters and numbers? And I told her that every letter and number has its own colour in my mind and she said she doesn’t have that. it wasn’t until many years later that she came back to me and said there is a name for this that you have and she told me about it

@MoveAlong I thought my mother was the only one that didn’t have it. I didn’t realize it was something that most people don’t have. I remember talking to my friends in high school about it and they thought it was crazy

@Jenny1234 I grew up in rural Tennessee where we only had a country doctor who ran a small clinic. When I was about 7-8 years old I had to go get a couple of stitches. My mom told the Dr about what I was experiencing. He didn't know what it might be but a few days later he called my mom and said he talked to another (younger) Dr he knew and told her I might have synesthesia. Mom researched it through the library and decided since it wasn't causing any problem to just leave it be. So, I rarely think about it. It's just part of who I am. Everything I experience is normal to me.

@MoveAlong yeah it just becomes a normal thing for you.
I rarely think about it unless people bring it up like your message or your post
