Did you know: about the Crayon Initiative?

The Crayon Initiative was created by Bryan Ware, an inventive dad from California, in 2011.
The idea sparked one night while he was out to dinner with his family. He noticed his sons coloring on the menu and wondered where restaurant crayons ended up when guests left. He discovered that most restaurants discard crayons after a single use, and because they are not biodegradable, they contribute to landfill waste. This realization motivated Bryan to find a way to repurpose these crayons for a better purpose.
Driven by this idea, Bryan began the process of collecting and recycling used crayons. He figured out how to sort and melt them down and then remanufacture them into new, usable crayons. He even consulted with an occupational therapist to develop a unique three-sided design for the new crayons, making them easier for children to grip and less likely to roll off surfaces. His initial efforts began in his own home, sorting and melting down crayons in his kitchen with the help of his family.
The ultimate goal of The Crayon Initiative is to provide free, recycled crayons to children in hospitals, offering them a tool for creativity and a temporary escape from their medical treatments. This idea quickly gained traction, growing from a small operation in Bryan's kitchen to a nationwide effort, partnering with hospitals and art programs across the country.
