In a nutshell, The Old Testament recorded creation as it was perceived to have been started, the early history of mankind and the prophecies of a coming Savior, while the New Testament reveals that Savior - Jesus Christ - and the start of the Christian Church.

The Old Testament focuses on Israel the Nation, whereas the New Testament focuses on Jesus Christ.

Keep in mind that the New Testament wasn't even written until about 60 years AFTER the death of Jesus, which means the New Testament was not at all written even in part by Jesus himself.

The New Testament was written by educated Scribes within the Church who were under the direction (and editing) of the Clergy at all times.

The New Testament therefore, is comprised of notes and remembrances from the time Jesus walked this world, but because the Clergy and their Scribes were the only educated ones who could both read and write, they could write anything they wanted because the congregations they served were purely illiterate at the time.

That is why the New Testament sounds incomplete and somewhat disjointed at times, since what you are reading is a highly edited rendition of what Jesus actually said or had intended to be understood by the masses at large.

The original manuscripts are thousands of years old, off the top of my head I think around 2,000 years old ,but someone can correct me if that's wrong.
