More memories that stay
A 20 year marriage collapsed and for lack of a better plan, I took off in my Camry and started traveling around the US
My daughter, 18, stayed with her dad because she had a boyfriend, a job, and close friends.
I was approaching New Orleans, and on the phone one night, she sighed. “I wish I could see it.”
I said “You can! I’ll fly you down.”
And that’s what we did. After New Orleans, we headed for the Gulf Coast in Biloxi and the Beau Rivage casino/hotel. I reserved a room and specifically requested an ocean view. That’s what the confirmation email stated.
When we arrived, I was told that they were sorry, but there were no available rooms with an ocean view. It was a fact.
That’s when I arguably turned into a Karen. Not as loud, but pushing back. I was blocking the line of other guests trying to register. I was sorry to inconvenience them, but I was on a mission. They had promised me the view, and I would hold them to it.
It took about half an a hour and I had talk to three or four different hotel employees.
Finally, a man in a suit appeared in front of me. When THAT talk ended, we were given the key to a “high rollers” suite. Truly, it was ridiculous but when you pulled back the drapes, the spectacular ocean view fell at your feet.
There were three rooms in that room. Bathroom, of course, and a bedroom with an enormous bed, and a “living room.” There were three telephones, The bathroom fixtures were gold. (I never thought they were actual gold).
A table in the living room was covered by a big basket of fruit, two bouquets of flowed and an apology note, along with discounts for various hotel amenities. The spa, the restaurant.
These rooms would have fit nicely into a castle for the French monarchy. We were flummoxed.
But finding your Karen switch can sometimes result in a lovely few days.
