I Learned Something New Today

Today I learned that my dog’s pre-existing condition (glaucoma) could expand over night and cause what’s left of my dog’s eye sight to disappear. It wasn’t bad enough that he already had cataracts in his one eye left, that the glaucoma has to shift because his right eye was no longer there. On top of that, he has heart disease from a murmur he’s had all his life. But he has had cataracts since age 2, and glaucoma since about 5 or 6...and his right eye was removed in 2018 due to eye ulcers and the retina having been eaten by the expanding glaucoma. My dog does not deserve anymore misery, but he’s still trying to be happy and make me happy...so I haven’t given up on him yet. Yes, he is an older dog, but just last night he was playing fetch. Waking up to such an awful shock really can mess with one’s own ability to function. He is one of the only living beings that keeps me sane, and makes me feel less alone in this world. I can’t lose him now.

Love him while you can, their time with us is so very short, he'll adapt to the blindness, it doesn't change how much he loves you or you him 🙂
