Message me, then not respond?

If you're going to initiate a conversation with someone, anyone, in person; do you say "hey, how are you?" And then walk away?

I've responded to many messages, that started just like that, and no response. WTF???

If you're going to engage me, please have the courtesy to continue the conversation. Much appreciated.

Hey, how are you.......hey how ya doin'..........are rhetorical sometimes. Not EVERYTIME those words are spoken means you MUST go on and become acquainted. I do get ur point.........people anymore have no idea how to converse. If it's not on social media or texting or playing a game with someone online they have never met and never will...... they would never have contact with another human being. But that is humanity anymore. Isolated, damaged, socially mal adjusted people. So logically if it's that way in day to day life...........its on social media too. It's 2024..........its how people are now.
