Equal is too strong a constraint. Perhaps significant contributions from both sides, accompanied by a feeling of contribution by both sides? Or, if you want to get quantitative, no less than 2/3 & 1/3. And sometimes someone really needs to be listened to and that's the biggest contribution you can make at that time.
