I Am a Believer In Education

"When you sit in front of a kindergartner with a stopwatch in your hand, and she can't bark out letters fast enough to earn the score of proficient, and you're recording all of it, you aren't teaching her to read, you're teaching her to hate reading"
-Philip Kovacs

This is so true. As an Educator/Mom I believe a child has to enjoy the experience or they will close themselves off to it.

I do agree they should not be timed to be proficient. The only way it should be timed is if they race to beat their own score then they can see the data and strive to get better. This way it is used as a motivation strategy and a good way for the child to see his or her data. This would just be for the child and teacher to see so there is no pressure.
