Am I a nepo baby at this point

I'm an incoming second-year student, and my family is struggling financially. I had already accepted that I'd take a gap year, work, and rest because I didn't want the scholarship. However, my family insisted that I continue studying and pushed me to apply again. They know the head of the program. I wasn't accepted the first two times because of my own issues and I gave up, but after they talked to him, I was summoned again. I expected a third interview, but I was surprised to find out I was already hired for one year only. Now I'm wondering if I only got the job because of my family's connection. Does that make me a nepo baby?

Seize the opportunity!
Nepo baby? No. Maybe your parents’ input helped, maybe it didn’t.

Regardless of HOW you got it, what will determine the future is what you do with it. You can refuse it and proceed on your original course. You can give it your best and force your employers to give you good references.

At whatever point you judge best, sit down with your folks and ask why they stepped in and to please not do that anymore.
Do well at the job and don’t stress how fair or unfair the hiring process was

We can’t say for sure but just try to be there. Think positive, be optimistic, you might not like it there but give it a chance and when it ends try to talk to your family again about your own decisions.
