College does not guarantee success anymore although it it supposed to offer more opportunity

As much as I want to return to university and college which I will because finishing my education is one of my goals in life. I will be using it for personal enrichment and career advancement. And no one can take away your education from you. Granted college is needed for many positions especially advanced job roles and can be a great way to expand your horizons, encourage critical thinking, and make connections. But my only issue is like for my sister and many others it does not carry the career security if once did. Graduates are coming out of school with student debt and not getting hired for the career roles they were in school for and not putting their degrees to good use. Though college used to be a guarantee for much better pay and more career security, it is not anymore and you have to be creative with marketing your degree to stand out from other applicants and graduates maybe by taking an internship or traineeship with your degrees. Employers also need to stop being so picky with wanting applicants to be job ready. Of course recent students and graduates don’t have any experience. That’s why it is called an entry level career move. I think college is great if you truly enjoy the learning experience and are willing to teach yourself skills to continuously upskill your learning. But some career fields are becoming saturated and college with the exception of more affordable schools and programs are becoming ridiculously expensive. But having only a high school diploma is usually not enough for financial security unless you went to school for a skilled trade. So yeah. College can still be a very positive experience but it’s not as much of a guarantee as it used to be which is very discouraging for recent graduates like my sister.
