@swirlie back in my day high school was only 2 years 11-12...junior high was 8-10...that was bc....ontario was 6-8 junior high...9-12 in ontario in the 80s
@beermeplease
I went to school in Ontario, so 9 to 12 for me. Started high school and joined the gymnastics cheerleading group when I was 14.

@swirlie i lived there for grades 4-6 then back to bc. so i was in junior high there for grade 6 but back in bc i went back to elementary for grade 7 🤣....one thing i liked about junior high in ontario was the school dances.
@beermeplease
Junior high while you were still in public school? I've never heard of that before! Junior high in Ontario was grade 9 and senior high was grade 12 in a 4 year program.
In an Ontario 5 year program, we went from 9 to 13. Grade 9 was still called junior high and grade 12 was still called senior high, while grade 13 was called 'university entrance'. I think only Ontario offered grade 13 in their high school programs.
Ontario had a 'special ed' high school in each city that offered grade 9 and 10, at which point you graduated, but all regular high schools had at least a 4 year program for either an Arts & Science or Tech program.
If you signed up for a 5 year Arts & Science program, it meant you were planning on going to university, though senior high was actually grade 12!
Funny you should mention school dances... I never missed a high school dance for the whole time I ever attended high school!

@swirlie so while we passed notes in class you guys sent texts 😊
@beermeplease
...we had flip-phones, which means it was faster to pass notes under our desks!

@swirlie haha....i bet it was
@beermeplease
We could have cellphones but we couldn't bring them into the school with us or we'd get sent home for the day if we pulled it out and started texting or calling. It was a good policy compared to what goes on today in school classes, so note-passing seemed to be the only viable way of communicating under the radar!

@swirlie in my day a few of the kids had pagers. usually those who had one were the school's drug dealers
@beermeplease
Oh god, my Dad still has one of those 'pagers'! He wears it on his belt everywhere he goes and if it goes off, he simply goes up to the house for lunch... because that's his official 'dinner bell' call from my mom. The only problem is, he gave his pager's number to a bunch of his friends recently in case they ever needed to call him for something... 🙄
