Tbh those people truly have problems. Just avoid them if you want to live a more peaceful life. They usually do all that stuff to be the center of attention because of some trauma, so if anybody like that comes up to you to say something mean, just talk to them nicely to show that you are smart enough to not bother about them.
You meet others in Universy which is normal and hopefully a good thing for you. That said, when that situation becomes bad for you, then it is time for you, for your own mental well being, to separate from them. Focus on your education. You must take care of yourself first.
But you will likely also meet new people who will become good friends and acquaintances.

What you're seeing in these people could be either or both of the following:
1. University can sometimes give people a god complex
2. It takes a lil while to see someone's true colours
Either way, you probably need to find a new crowd to hang out with

They sound insufferable, good thing that you separated from them

On another note, how is school going for you?

Wow those sound like horrible people to hang out with, good on you for leaving them!

Yep, college can be High School 2.0
Work isn't any better, it's high school all over again.
Drama, gossip, cliques, butt kissing etc

They were Newbies at school and needed to make friends. After they did they got cocky and now their true colors are showing like the cliques they are in
