Civilisation (1969) Part 3 of 13 - Romance and Reality
Personally, I never went to university but took Open University courses in my late 30s instead. I have now a bachelor in history, but I still look back at an extremely instructive time when I watched television often for OU-courses on for example how important Giotto was to the history of painting. These days I admire simplicity. Great things are simple and should be told that way. Listen to Handel's Messiah or look at Michelangelo's Last Judgment. Likewise, Kenneth Clark introduiced us all in the third episode of his own grand oeuvre to the great civilisers of courtly love, franciscan chivalry, dantenesk imagination, etc. Yes, please, give yourself a chance to learn about all of these things because it needs indeed some effort. I dare to say meditation here
