I listen to plenty of music by English (Scots, Welsh, Irish, etc.) composers and performers; but not present-day pop, and I have never liked political songs even in the 1960s.
I can give one name there, though, to answer your question, and that is Billy Bragg, whose voice I find grating and his words, merely dull, formulaic dogma. Still, it has earned the Londoner enough money to buy a house in West Dorset - but I think his only, not second, home; which would be rather hypocritical of him!
