How do I decide what to major in?

I’ve thought so much about this. I’m currently going for my associates, but I still have no idea about what I want to major in. I’m interested in a little bit of everything. Any tips?

Go general studies and then switch majors once you find out what you're passionate about.

@CountScrofula @ awesomeautumn please don't graduate with a general studies degree
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@iamnikki That's why I said switch majors lol
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@CountScrofula I get that. I'm simply emphasizing to her, please don't GRADUATE with that major...meaning, don't get lazy and stay with gen studies

How about Criminal Justice? Crime will never disappear or go out of style.
Look into the transfer degree programs. Most public universities (in America) have agreements with community colleges to guarantee junior status upon admission. Keeps you on course.

@KrackerBash yes, excellent advice. Do this, because I did. It keeps you from wasting time and money taking classes that you don't need
Start out with business or just pick something and go from there. You’ll find some classes mor interesting than others and you can adjust your major.
@Spoiledbrat Yeah, I was thinking a business degree

To start off in a "high paying" job you will have to do internships alongside studies to get experience, or else they will nickel and dime you for a few years regardless of what degree.
Do something related to Technology- Yeah its male dominated and it's difficult but if you push throguh you wont regret it. Everyone else's life will be hard compared to yours.

Before signing up for college, you can take some free classes online involving your interests and see what it is like and which one fits for you.

What's your end goal? What do you want to do for work?
@iamnikki high paying job that I enjoy lol. I’m just not good at deciding what one thing I want to do for the rest of my life
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@AwesomeAutumn you aren't picking what to do for the rest of your life. You are picking a general direction.
So what does this high paying job entail?

you may very well NOT work within your degree.

I'd say get a 2 year technical degree or a 4 year degree in accounting.

Major in a STEM field, and try not to laugh when your friends with art history degrees cry about their shitty paying jobs.

What fuels your drive ??

If tomorrow was interview day, who would you want that interview with ??

Not sure of what you are passionate about?
@Deadish I have no idea, honestly. I’m into a little bit of everything.

@AwesomeAutumn it took me till my late 20s to figure out what I wanted to do. I would go with what someone else suggested and do general studies till you find something that grabs you and keep trying different things till you find your passion. Having 2-3 goals in life never hurts as well that way if something doesn’t work out you have other things.

@AwesomeAutumn it’s good to focus on something you love doing vs something that makes a lot of money in my opinion as well.

Not English, unless you plan to be a teacher.

Make sure it's something you can get paid for.
I am in the same situation. I went to Art School 4 years ago after school. Now I am in my final year and there are so many ways ahead, Masters, job, set up my own business. I wanted to do everything about Art but the system narrowed me down. I do Multidisciplinary but it still means just two disciplines. Fine Art and Ceramics/Jewellery.

Either medical or technology but don’t expect to finish quickly. It might take at least 5 years .
