Good afternoon

I am an Art student. We have to hand in our last term's work on 5th January. I have been working almost every day. Writing my dissertation in the morning. Walk after lunch. Making jewellery in the afternoon. But after writing my dissertation this morning I felt like a break. I haven't been online since before Christmas and thank you those who messaged me Merry Christmas on Christmas Day. I feel sad that only now have I had those messages.

Dissertation? Getting your PhD? A good student puts distractions by the way side and keeps moving forward. Good for you!
@TexChik Yes dissertation. Not PhD! I'm Third Year in college. Just degree course. It's 6,000 words. A lot to me but nothing to PhD students I guess!

@LilirWyddfa Oh – I also thought your dissertation is a PhD thesis.
@helenS No I am a Third Year BA student. They were called essays when I did Access and in Year 1 and year 2. Year 3 it's dissertation. In Welsh it is simpler. Essay is Traethawd. Dissertation is Traethawd Hir. Means long essay.

@LilirWyddfa Thank you! 🌷

@LilirWyddfa In the US, a dissertation is done for a PhD. A thesis is required for a Masters, and passing your course work and finals are all that is required to get a bachelor of Art or Science
@helenS Maybe it's just this business of using different names in different countries. I am in Wales. I walk on pavements. Boys wear trousers. I write a dissertation in my Third Year of college.
@TexChik Thank you. I thought maybe it has been a difference of language. We speak English but American English and British English are increasingly divergent just as the tectonic plates are pulling us apart. One day the two languages will be on the foreign language curriculum.
To explain. I started my Access course in 2017. In my Art School. In 2018 I started my degree. And now I am Third Year. In Access and Years 1 and 2 they call them essays. Now in Third Year it's called Dissertation or as we call it Diss!
