I Am Unsure About College

My dad wants me to go to the community college nearby the first two years but I sort of want to go right to the university. Dad says I need time to explore different subjects and decide what my major will be and community college is better for that. But it sort of doesn't seem like really being in college to me. Maybe he is right though.

What harms too many college students is the giddy sense of freedom - out from under parental supervision and guidance and from the teachers who watch for trouble and hassle them about upcoming tests and papers due.

Freedom always carries responsibility for the free - and it is very easy to get caught up in the freedom and forget why you're there.

People tell themselves there's a whole semester to master the material for the final and they tell themselves that when there's only a half-semester and then a tenth.

It's not just dating and partying that's seductive - it's all night debates and concerts and theater productions.

The ones who understand that you must work to deserve are usually fine. Those that don't are gone by sophomore year.

Easing into it through community college is not a bad idea.
