I Went to An Ivy League College

I did. It was challenging, and in the end I believe I would have done better had they just given me the diploma and let me go out into the wild. Not because the education wasn't excellent- it was- but because I'm best motivated by things that colleges and universities can't provide.

People put too much importance on the college experience. A degree is a tool you use to get you started in the industry that you might want to be in. It's not the key to riches...

@Notmesam I mostly agree. There are a lot of advantages to going to 'elite' schools though, in the sense that you get to hang out with a lot of elite people who have a lot of money. I believe that the easiest way to get rich is to be friends with rich people.
@ivash Yes I agree that networking is important but is it worth the price tag of an "elite" school? I guess it's all about taking advantage of the opportunities you're presented with...

@Notmesam It depends. The outright majority of the people at my school were getting financial support from the college or scholarships, which helped a lot of people. And, if you are good at making friends and networking, it is absolutely worth it (imo).
@ivash Well I hope you did take advantage of those opportunities. Networking is very important when you're out in the workforce. You're most likely to get that raise if you're buddies with the manager..

@Notmesam Or if you can skip a bunch of rungs and become senior management right out of college, which (if you have the right connections) does happen in certain fields (life is strange sometimes)
@ivash Lol that's very rare, unless daddy owns the company...

@Notmesam If you stay in the West it is, but if you go to the rest of the world it actually isn't that hard, I've seen a lot of people do it already. In several part of the world there many people almost idolize degrees from top colleges, and if one's connections are good there is an easy path to the top. Especially the graduates who knows (and can hook people up with) people from Silicon Valley. That's playing on the easiest of modes.
