I've lived in states with a driver's ed requirement and states with no such requirement. Why even have traffic laws in the latter?
You know why accidents happen? People don't know what they're doing on the road (and not paying attention). You have no idea how many accidents are the result of "I was just..." and "No one told me that."
Driver's ed isn't' about lines and seat belts, precious as it is you have all the answers. It's about knowing how to navigate in bad weather conditions so your passengers live through the trip. It's about understanding right of way and merging so you don't have to hear the $800 sound of metal scraping metal. It's knowing the traffic laws so you don't plow through a kid crossing the street from a school bus across the road.
