Hard for me to say. I'm an illegal but I spoke English before I came to the USA. I learned how to speak from a Somali guy who taught me. Every fourth word he spoke was "fucking" which is probably why I'm so profane.
Eeyore122 · 36-40, F
@BlueMetalChick: Hahahahahahahah. It is a versatile word. Fuck can be noun, verb, adverb, adjective. :P
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Eeyore122: Exactly! It's a very flexible term.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@BlueMetalChick: and you should be deported
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Mountainlady16: Why's that? I work a job, I pay taxes, I contribute a lot. I came to the USA because I left civil war in my country. I was given a student visa but was denied asylum. My visa is expired now. What do I do that's harmful?
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@BlueMetalChick: you are not supposed to be here and you were denied asylum for a reason im sure. That job could and should go to an American citizen or legal immigrant
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Mountainlady16: I was never directly "denied" asylum. My request for it was just straight up ignored. But look what I do. I'm a fourth year astronomy student in university. I'm a home owner who pays mortgage and taxes. I'll be graduating soon and I've already applied for a job with the American government's space program. Look, if y'all don't want my talents, I can just as easily go help the Chinese and their space program. America right now is absolutely desperate for engineers, astronomers, and physicists. If you haven't noticed, over 80% of the USA's civil engineers were hired and brought in from foreign countries. Over half of the space program consists of Russians, ethnic Poles, and Eastern Europeans Jews. So no, a legal immigrant or American citizen probably wouldn't take my job and you'd end up with someone being flown into the United States and paid higher than I would be for that job.
Eeyore122 · 36-40, F
@BlueMetalChick: Kindly there is a difference between ignored and denied.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Eeyore122: You're right. In truth, I was ignored, not denied, but I suppose I misused that word. I was a legal immigrant in Australia before the USA but I could only stay so long there. I had family in the USA, one uncle named Paul who sells rum. So I came here to Chicago. I got a legit visa but haven't been able to renew it, or get anyone to reply to my requests for asylum. Ordinarily I could return to my ethnic home country, but...I don't have one.
Eeyore122 · 36-40, F
I'd say keep trying to get it extended. You are still a student.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Eeyore122: I'm planning on moving again once I graduate. Even if I didn't have to, I travel a lot. It's...kinda part of the whole Romani thing, y'know.
Eeyore122 · 36-40, F
Not very familiar with the Romani thing.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Eeyore122: Do you know what a Gypsy is? And that's an actual question, I'm not trying to be snarky. A lot of people actually don't know what that means.
Eeyore122 · 36-40, F
Very transient, larger families... LOL Sorry I was a Spanish minor. Much more familiar with aspects of those cultures.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@BlueMetalChick: ok wow.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Eeyore122: That is a common trait. Gypsy is the common word for Romani or Roma, a race of people originally from the area of the globe which is current day India and Myanmar. We haven't lived there in hundreds, if not thousands, of years though. Traveling a lot is kind of part of the ethnic identity of Roma people.
Eeyore122 · 36-40, F
Thanks. I learned something new. ;)
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@BlueMetalChick: ive heard ppl say that international students who get degrees in the us should be allowed to stay and work here
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Mountainlady16: Well maybe I'm more in that situation then. At any rate, I'm graduating in one year and I might be looking to move to France if I find a way to.
