I can't leave anything to be done at the GUI level, it all needs to be done in MySQL, even the exception handling.
A user enters their new (or existing) username into the GUI, the system needs to check whether the name already exists within the system or not. If the username exists then they need to enter their password to gain access. If the username doesn't exist then they need to be asked whether or not they want to create a new account.
I understand the logic but just don't know the syntax.
