Think of the best teacher you've ever had. What did they teach, and what made them so special?

A maths teacher, who was also housemistress, chaplain and choir mistress at my boarding school. She was kind, patient and devoted to the girls she taught and looked after. The Christmas that my sisters and I couldn't go home because our parents were both on active service turned out to be one of the best ever.
