Where did you learn English?

I grew up in Carpathian Ruthenia and we were quite fortunate that there were some Germans living there among us. One of the Germans has an English wife and she taught at the language school club.

I have noticed that there is a difference between American English and the original from the United Kingdom. Word spellings and pronunciation. You have to listen for the way in which they speak to get the meaning.

I was born in Italy.
When I was 8 (1996) the Italian government introduced a law that made English compulsory in every school, so I started then and studied all the way up the end of high school (2007).
I was one of the best learners in my class, especially after my Australian classmate moved back to Australia when we were 11.
My English was good, but still basic: I've definitely improved my skills by moving to the UK in 2013 and being surrounded by non-Italian speakers.
