I have but so long ago that I recall very little of it, nor really know how "well" I did.

I think there was one as a part of the standard "11+ Examinations" in the 4th, so last, year of Primary School, that determined if you would go to the Grammar or Secondary Modern School. Both were run by the Local Education Authority; but the former was the more academic and the latter more vocational, in aim.

All swept away in the 1980s, I think it was, by the massive change, or more accurately upheaval, to the "Comprehensive Schools" system. If the 1980s I had left school at least ten years previously.

...

More significant was an IQ Test I think were - from very dim memories going back sixty-five years - part of investigating mental health problems I appear to have had then. Whatever those were are not described in my NHS record that says that I was only prescribed sedatives... which of course don't really do much unless part of other treatment such the counselling I did not have!

The record does say I was unusually highly intelligent, which given that I became slow to learn anything, surprised me to read.

A friend who is retired university lecturer (lecturer, not professor, but a Senior one!) told me the sort of intelligence-tests we were given at school were really only to assess academic learning potential. I asked what other questions might be included. She thought for a moment and offered, "Suggest constructive uses for an empty cardboard carton." So testing qualities like imagination, creativity and ability to think in three dimensions. (A conventional IQ test question is a really just a one- or two- dimensional puzzle, and some of such questions appear in fun puzzle-anthologies.)
