This person is adorable and they break it down really well

@caccoon Yeah, it's good to know lights are just lights and most grow lights are just a rebranded cash grab 😂

@Fishy lights are so complicated, especially with the variety of plants. But yeah... It's mostly to do with the wattage per space (distance from light, reflection of light)

I find it easiest to just test with certain plants and see their reaction and adjust accordingly. It's easier to see what a happy plant is and look at the specs from there

But all plants are different 💙 and there are other factors. But light is definitely one of the big 3(000)

Also some plants get really upset when you put them under red/blue, and prefer white/blue

@Fishy regarding your last statement, why is that?

You can also avoid dechlorinators if they are the issue

@caccoon I'm a total noob to it, so I'm not 100% sure, but I've been poking around in the aquaponics community and many people think that it could have contaminates that will transfer to the food you harvest or something and it could be toxic in the long term, or because these products aren't really designed for human consumption that there's less food safety regulations or something

I heard of people using vitamin C as an alternative dechlorinators tho

@Fishy yes, you could also use distilled water or rainwater and run through a UV sterilizer to get rid of any harmful bacteria, and then remineralize to the correct specs.

With my tanks, I remineralize. It's just easier to maintain. It seems like a pain in the ass but honestly it saves so much fucking around

I don't trust dechlorinators much
