Why do teachers who obviously do not enjoy being around children choose a profession surrounding kids?

I have had a few teachers throughout the years who make it crystal clear that they do not like being around us.. I just don't get it lol.

Oh I have had many of those. But I don't think they started out that way. I think there was a time they loved working with kids but over the years between the administration and the kids that just don't listen and parents that don't care they started hating what they do. Now they could always quit but some can't afford to start over and are counting on retirement.
That's probably true too :)

I went to a small university that was known as a "teacher's college". Most of the students didn't know what to do with their lives so by teaching they could just stay in school. As the old saying goes, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."

it was a noble thought when in their 20's taking courses in college
and now after years of work, crappy bosses, disrespectful children and parents
just guess what happens!

@prettylittleliar: Are the teachers you describe older or younger? Take into account how underappreciated/underpaid teachers are. It's one of the most important jobs on the planet, yet one of the most underpaid and underappreciated. If you're a teacher, that can really wear you down over time. For example, Mrs. Johnson began her career as a fantastic teacher and gradually, her abilities (for lack of a better word) slipped down to that in your original post.

i go to a private christian school.mostly older teachers. all over 30 i guess
Middle aged, 40's I would say. it seems the elderly ones and the younger ones seem to be the ones that enjoy what they do, they really should pay them more, money makes the 🌎 go round after all! :)
