They've been sitting in a classroom for 9 months. Give them a break. Let them be kids.

@CactusJackManson attitudes like this is y teachers spend the first month of school reviewing and reteaching stuff they learned the previous year because they forgot it over the summer. i dont think an hour or 2 a week will hurt my kids my oldest already found something he really wants to take a science class on space.

@Mountainlady16 Not the teachers I had. It was full speed ahead. Let them be kids or they will resent you.

@CactusJackManson im a teacher believe me i spent the first month with part of my kindergarteners this year reviewing things they learned in prek while some my kindergarteners were ready to even start learning cvc words.

@Mountainlady16 That's the problem. They all go to pre-k these days. soon they'll be going to school right out of the womb. They're not adults. They need to be able to play and make memories during the summer. When they get older (15-16), they can work.

@CactusJackManson i dont think you realize what kids are expected to know when they enter kindergarten today my mom whose in her early 40s talks about how when she started kindergarten they didnt have to know anything. She did not even learn to read or write until the 1st grade today if your kid cannot least recognize their letters and write their full name when they start kindergarten they are behind.

@Mountainlady16 Kindergarten is where you learn those things. It's the starting point. I don't think you understand. And I'm older than your mother.

@CactusJackManson not anymore you learn those things in prek today. Now my school expects are kids to be more advanced than public schools and learn at a faster pace. It does help that unlike public school until the 3rd grade we concentrate on the 3 Rs at our school. they dont have regular science and social studies lessons just like talking about holidays and nature trips and reading about animals but when kids come to kindergarten which my 3rd child will be in kindergarten next year while my older 2 are going into 1st and 4th (my oldest in fact started kindergarten a year early). My son whose going into kindergarten already reads on a first grade level

@Mountainlady16 It worked when I went to school. It will work now. My peers and I turned out fine. You will regret not letting your kids have a real childhood. Bye.

@CactusJackManson let me point out to you also i live in a part the country where its to hot to go outside for long periods of time most the day. right now my kids are watching some tv and reading because its over 85 degrees and thats in may

@Mountainlady16 It's called summer. Even though I had air conditioning growing up, I went outside to play in the heat. It didn't bother me. Keeping them inside will prevent them from enjoying the true beauty of nature while partaking in normal childhood adventures. We'll have to agree to disagree. Bye.
