I have a master's degree in physics, but I left science a long time ago.

@helenS Similar fields! Most in my field need to get a doctorate before they can get a substantial job. Unless they want to teach. And with as little control teachers have today, that wasn't going to happen.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Funtoy4u Yes similar. I left science to return to the place where I came from. I'm a country girl at heart 😏

@helenS Same here. I was offered a job at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ. But my father was recovering from surgery so I turned it down to help with the farm. I also took a job programming equipment for a local office equipment company to make extra cash. That is how I got into the industry I am in now.

I studied Computer Science and my BSc in 1988

Locally. I never went to university I did a diploma in Computer Studies (just the name suggests how lobg ago this was) at a local college as part of a training scheme (would now be called an apprenticeship).

I finally went to university as I turned 50 but only ever as an employee 😂😂

@hippyjoe1955 Mechanical engineering?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@helenS Chemical process engineering. The field was open for the taking since there was a huge push to develop processes to get oil out of dirt so upon graduation so.... I didn't stay in the field very long and it was many years ago. It was a challenge but I honestly don't miss it.

I would love to have studied some type of engineering.

I studied Nautical Science at a polytechnic.
No... you don't go to university in my family.

Hopefully, I'll break that mould one day...
