I have a master's degree in physics, but I left science a long time ago.

What made you want to leave the sciences? @helenS
helenS · 36-40, F
@Sweetthing I was in the US and i was willing to do my PhD there but then I felt it's not for me. I had the impression the institute is a gulag, and I was very homesick.

That is a shame, hopefully you found something else equally as challenging@helenS

@helenS Same here. Degree in Physics from one of the top universities for Physics. Even had two Nobel winners for professors. I left the field and now own an office equipment company.

@Funtoy4u I work from home now, as a technical writer and a programmer.

@helenS Did you have a Field of Concentration? Mine was Coherent Optics.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Funtoy4u Optical spectroscopy

@helenS Similar fields! Most in my field need to get a doctorate before they can get a substantial job. Unless they want to teach. And with as little control teachers have today, that wasn't going to happen.

@Funtoy4u Yes similar. I left science to return to the place where I came from. I'm a country girl at heart 😏

@helenS Same here. I was offered a job at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ. But my father was recovering from surgery so I turned it down to help with the farm. I also took a job programming equipment for a local office equipment company to make extra cash. That is how I got into the industry I am in now.
