All depends.

So I set up a trust fund that paid out when my children reached 21. I paid in each month and occasionally a lump sum of my annual bonus was good. Now as 21 approached I said you'll get this bunch of money. That is it I have saved this up for you, buy a house, pay off debts, take a year traveling, buy a car, get married, whatever but THAT IS IT. You are an adult now this is my starter for you in that journey but don't come back later for more.

My son did a PhD. My daughter bought a house. Their choice but when they both got married this year they funded their weddings they understood that.

So depends on what's been the agreement etc growing up. We as parents agreed the position and stuck with it. It's all about boundaries
