So this horrible secondary school teacher here refused to call a student by their chosen name

And insisted on referring to the student by their dead name and also refused to use their chosen they/them, he was suspended from his job and also refused to accept the suspension and turned up at school last week and continued with the abuse, he's now gone to prison.. Story attached, kind of shocking tbh..

One person is not a they or them. Basic English fact.
Dead name.... is that like... BIRTH name/LEGAL name?

When someone chooses to become something they really weren't or aren't, it doesn't become society's job or place to have to follow and make it all nicey nice.
Transgender is not a reason people have to play pretend and give a new name. They and them are more than one. Is the "child" having identity issues?

The teacher is well within his rights and people need to stop letting anything and everything be allowed and accepted.
@SW-User "you" wasn't thou either, but became to be. Language is fluid and singular they is accepted by most dictionaries.
SW-User
@NerdyPotato They... is that one or more? I've never heard anyone being taught to say or write "they" when discussing one person.
Singular they.... sounds a bit contradictory
@SW-User that's because this use is fairly new and you're not used to it yet. Or maybe you even are without realizing it. Do any of these sound contradictory, unusual or strange?

No one has to go if they don't want to.
An employee with a grievance can file a complaint if they need to.

@NerdyPotato New does not mean I need to get use to it. I haven't gotten use to one night stands or many other things people find to be okay. I don't plan on getting use to things I find wrong. And I don't plan on conforming to they and them for ONE person!

Did you know that many dictionary terms and definitions have been changed?
An employee... would make sense with "they" since that could mean male or female... unknown.

"them
1. referring to a plural noun
Them can be the object of a verb or preposition. You use them to refer to people or things that have just been mentioned or whose identity is known.

Those children are now getting ready for school; some of them are only four years old.
She gathered the last few apples and put them into a bag.
Be Careful!
Don't use 'them' as the object of a clause when you are referring to the same people as the subject. Instead, use themselves.

Your children should be old enough now to dress themselves.
2. meaning 'him or her'
You can use them instead of 'him or her' to refer to a person whose sex is not known or not stated."

Don't expect the whole world to cater to your choices.
@SW-User
You can use them instead of 'him or her' to refer to a person whose sex is not known or not stated."
There you go! The child didn't state their gender because they don't feel like either/any. Welcome aboard!

Was that so difficult and worth all the fuzz?
SW-User
@NerdyPotato That was just ridiculous!
All the fuzz....I'm sure.
Leaving now. Real life is calling me.
@SW-User what was ridiculous? Take your time. I'll read your explanation when you have time to write it on your own schedule.
SW-User
@NerdyPotato I'm done here.
@SW-User I knew you could no longer defend calling that child anything other than "they" after that. I find it a bit weak not to just admit that and a bit strange to call an argument you brought to the table yourself ridiculous, but I'll take it. Have a great day!

@SW-User "Hey, someone left their jacket!"
-An example of they being used as a singular pronoun in definitely not new context.
SW-User
@Lucyy OMG!!! Give it a rest! It's not the same at all and trying to make it so doesn't make it so. You want to be called "they" and "them"? Do it on your own time and don't waste mine!
@NerdyPotato of course you'll take it.... best time to call a win is when nobody is home!
I am telling you both in this comment to let it go and not bother me anymore.
