Yes, that's perfectly normal.
Nails will continue to grow unless the nail bed is appropriately destroyed by a medical professional or a very nasty accident.

@thinkbigaboutlife Yes. I'm guessing that you actually injured your finger in some way???
Keep an eye on the growth of your new nail and make sure that it grows in the same way as you would expect it to normally. If the new growth starts to detach, too, then you may need to see a professional with it.

@HootyTheNightOwl thank you for your response.
yes over a month ago, a door accidentally was slammed on my fingers resulting in two broken fingertips, now three swollen fingers, but only one nail that seems to be progressing towards a fall... :( Doctors are not very fast at calling back around here, hence I felt the need to post here in case some would have experience with this situation..,.

@thinkbigaboutlife Just keep an eye on it. It's possible that the new nail growth might grow normally - but, if it doesn't, then you may need to look into getting it removed.
My experience is more in nails that grow in a barrel shape and having to have them permanently removed (on the advice of my podiatrist). So far, I have had two permanently removed and I have been advised that another two need to be permanently removed.
I'm putting off the latter surgery because the former surgery did not go well and my "permanently removed" nails are growing back - though there's less than a complete nail there now.

This has happened to me a few times. Eventually the nail will even out.
@666Maggotz thanks for being encouraging.
