Do you know how to work out the weight of Mild Steel Plate?
At work today I was a little lazy and tried to lift a 6 meter x 3 meter x 20 mm plate with a 2 ton capacity forklift.
Needless to say the back wheels lifted off the ground as the plate exceeded 2 tons in weight.
So, I done what I should have done before attempting the lift.
I worked out the weight of the plate thus;
Length x Breadth x thickness x 7.85 (Specific material density for Mild Steel)
6 meters x 3 meters x 20 mm x 7.85 = 2,826 kilograms.
No wonder the Forklift would not lift the plate. It was over 800 kilograms over capacity
