Can you tell me in layman's terms what a layman is?

A person who is not an expert in any particular field.

I am an engineer, so I am not a layman in engineering. I know nothing about art, so I am a layman with respect to art. In religion, a layman is someone who is not ordained as a priest or minister, although they may be experts in religion.

I would say, it's someone who doesn't practice any particular profession.

I'm a layman physicist. Have no idea what most of it means... But enjoy trying to. 🤷‍♀️
