Any Econ majors?

I am transferring colleges very soon with a major in economics, debating on whether to keep it or switch to something else. This has nothing to do with how I feel about the subject, I just want to know what econ majors are currently doing in the real world. What job did you get with your degree? Are you happy with your job, and do you feel like an econ degree helped you learn what you needed to be good at it?

I'm a Ph.D. economist working for a government.

Thats AWESOME. Mind if I ask what department?
WoodyAq · M
I work in the economy ministry studying firm growth.

@WoodyAq: Oh okay, cool! Is that US?
WoodyAq · M
@paresseux: Canada. My one piece of advice, though:

Do the math and the statistics, and go out of your way to do extra econometrics. Even if you don't like it, and even if you aren't good at it. Especially if you aren't good at. It's like eating your vegetables.

If you've got those skills, you'll always have a job.

@WoodyAq: I was wondering, we don't have that specific dept in the US. That makes sense. Do you think I should go for a Masters degree right a way or is a BA sufficient to get my foot in the door?
WoodyAq · M
A BA with strong empirical skills will get you in the door. Get some experience, especially learn what questions are being asked-- it'll help you with your higher degrees.

Gotcha- get the real world experience in before attempting the masters. Thank you for your input!

@paresseux: yeah, it's not necessary, (I went direct) but it'll help.
