How do you drop an egg from high up without it breaking?

My daughter is doing an Egg Drop Challenge in school and we need ideas. The eggs are going to be dropped from the grandstand roof. I think some people are making parachutes but I'm not sure that is very reliable.

If you soak an egg in vinegar the eggshell will absorb the acid and break down, or dissolve. The calcium carbonate will become carbon dioxide gas, which will go into the air. What is left is the soft tissue that lined the inside of the eggshell. It will bounce!

[@423488,curiosi] that sounds interesting

ok stretch the neck of a ballon put some foam in and the egg then some more foam,
blow the ballon up with a little air and drop worked from 8ft

[@996609,MelanieUK] I thought of something like that too. Maybe add the parachute for extra?

[@668319,morrgin] we didn't have a parachute at school when we did it in a science class, but that was around 8ft so maybe yes for your drop

There are a lot of ways... what are the specific rules? If you do it right, surrounding it with balloons can work. Or like a wireframe with rubber bands suspending the egg in the middle.

How do they know if it's a real egg or a fake egg? 🍳
Bubble wrap it.

We did that in high school. We used old newspapers to cover the eggs up until it's thick enough to not easily break. And yes, make a parachute for it. Fortunately, nothing was broken when we did it.

Freeze it and keep it in the carton.

[@1001706,OhKelsey] I thought of something like that too. I have a couple of kites maybe we could make into a glider.

wrap the egg in a good layer of cotton, which you can buy rolls of at the drug store. Don't make it tight. Then pack that wrapped egg in small bubble wrap, at least two inches on all sides, in a box. It should survive the drop.

I remember each of my kids had the same assigment. They worked out intricate shock absorbing systems.

[@349735,onestarrynight] not sure how high the grandstand is but originally they were going to to drop it from a hot air balloon.
