Why is there letter "D" in the word "fridge," but not in the word "refrigerator"?

English likes to sometimes pretend that "G" makes the "J" sound, but spelling it "Frij" was too weird for people to recognize, so they threw in the "D" from the word "Frigid" to make "fridge", which looked close enough to the "frige" from "refrigerator" that people could recognize it. "frigere" is the key term in the word, from latin, meaning to make something cold.

This is fascinating! I couldn't help but add the letter 'D' the first few times I spelled 'refrigerator' too.

Why is it judge but judgment has no E
abe182 · 46-50, M
Alright smarty try to explain this.

To die is dying
To dye is dieing

Because two of the same vowels cannot meet in the English language. Also it is dyeing not "dieing".

You are correct!
Dieing is to stamp metal

There wasn't enough numbers and so we had to compensate and throw in the letters too.
