You turn up to PE without pumps or plimsolls, what happens?

I was trying to think what might have happened at my school, some sixty years ago, but I honestly don't recall anyone ever doing so.

I think if for Games, outdoors on the playing-field in Summer, you might be told to go litter-picking, though in those days people generally had more respect for place and self so there would not be much to pick up. I dimly recall one boy sent on such a chore but I do not know why.

@ArishMell I remember some were sent litter picking still in their shorts and plimsolls Very unfashionable then but it made quite an impression on me and I like wearing them now1 maybe the association with punishment..

@prisonguy I like to wear similar, though I am not quite sure why. When a lad I hated wearing shorts but do like to now, and in fact three pairs are proper PE and Games shorts.

@prisonguy I think you might be allowed bare feet in the gym if you had forgotten to pack. It was going into communal shower completely naked that freaked me out 😳

@prisonguy They do look good and are comfortable - both the shorts and plimsolls.

I'm small enough to take shorts labelled "Age 13-14", so with the advantage of no VAT.

@ArishMell Very comfortable That is a big advantage! I'm a big and tall so no reduction for me! Luckily unbranded, not very fashionable plimsolls are cheap. They always remind me of school and punishment.

@prisonguy I think we think alike, but I do wear the shorts as ordinary casual wear as well without any special associations.

@prisonguy I have a pair of blue 'Nylon' PE shorts and two pairs of thin, black football shorts (they were sold in pairs) and they all are short enough to be shorts even on me, but respectable enough to wear out such as when shopping.

@ArishMell Greay, I'm sure you enjoying wearing those out. I have quite long quite shorts and a shorter black pair I like to wear when shopping in the Summer.
