Things that people who never work night shift dont understand...

if i come home from an 8 hour shift at the hospital at 6am in the morning. i sometimes feel like having a beer or a wine to relax... but people see you on your balcony in the morning with a beer and everyone thinks you are a weirdo

I've worked 3rd shift my entire life, minus a few years. In addition to being thought of as an alcoholic (case of beer and cribbage after work with the boys), my favorite is the idea that for some reason, I NEED to go to bed after working all night, as soon as I get home. I turn to my non-third-shifter friends and ask them if they go to bed after work, soon as THEY get home. No? Why not? 😋

@GwydionFrost yeah and they come ring your door at noon and call you a sleepy head... hell even if i went to bed right when i come home thats way to early to visit me for some shit.

i started calling them in the middle of the night

@AngelofFail I disabled my doorbell because of that and my landlord had a fit. I told him next time I have an issue with the apartment I would wake his ass up at 2am to fix it. He muttered under his breath and left it alone LOL

@AngelofFail Waking them up to make breakfast plans for later today?

Inspired genius. 😆

The key is not giving a damn what people think, cheers.

I used to work till after midnight and usually couldn’t get to sleep until about 2-2:30 a.m.
GwydionFrost · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti I did second shift for a short stint. Hated it more than 1st shift. Couldn't do anything in the morning, everything was closing afterwards.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@GwydionFrost same, the only real advantage was that I could make doctor and dentist appt’s early afternoon and not have to take off from work, I had so much time in my account that it was overflowing after a couple years. Also could get most business taken care of during the afternoon.

Everyone gets weird looks from time to time. Most of those who look forget about it after a minute or so. Do what you want.
yesIdoride2 · 46-50, F
I know the feeling well. I never could get used to working all night.
AngelofFail · 26-30, F
@yesIdoride2 i love night shift... you get paid more... and actually work less. but it crushes your social life
Pherick · 41-45, M
@AngelofFail My online social life was in full swing when I worked night shift :) My real social life? Pretty much dead.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
When I worked third shift factory work, a group of guys and myself would hit the local coffee shop every friday morning at the end of the week after collecting our paychecks and order off the dinner menu at 8am, we always got strange looks when we ate our meatloaf, pork chops, fish and chips, etc. LOL
AngelofFail · 26-30, F
@NativeOregonian yeah i hate it when food stores only sell breakfast in the morning.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@AngelofFail Those are the worst.
Yeah I learned that when I tried to go to the liquor store at 7 am

People are so closed minded. Live your life

Your balcony, your rules.

I worked nights at the family homeless shelter where I once worked, and I feel as though it permanently skewed my internal clock. I am a night person anyway, probably because I lived in Japan when I am a baby and my internal clock got set back then.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
I used to get dirty looks when I would have a beer six am. While they were drinking beer, I was drinking coffee while driving my cab all night.
Pherick · 41-45, M
I used to work 2pm to midnight and got home around 1am. It was kind of nice to have a few hours all to myself with the world still asleep

Eh, don't mind them. Go on and enjoy a cold one 🍺
