Handwriting is kind of like an art.

@swandfriends In many cultures it is art, calligraphy is an amazing skill
It's not an essential skill anymore, unfortunately. However it significantly improves coordination between both our LHS & RHS brain hemispheres, so it's crucial for our own cognitive behavior.

I learnt to write using cursive, copperplate style so I may be bias. I think that anything that helps us produce creative and beautiful things with our hands should be encouraged. It makes us feel good, if nothing else.
Yesterday I saw Novembermoon's amazing handwriting and thought
that it is a dying art
Handwriting is as important as crawling before you walk

@RooiSoosSkarlakenWitSoosSneeu It is very hard to motivate the kids though - all they see is their parents typing, and they think is silly to have to to this antiquated stuff :)

Unfortunately it isn't required, but I still think it's important. I work for the Department of Revenue, and I have to make sure that information on scanned forms (most of which were filled out by hand) gets entered into the system correctly. If people don't write legibly, then I can't get their information entered correctly into the system, and that is a problem. Some people can't even seem to write numbers legibly, let alone names. It's frustrating, as it makes my job quite difficult.
