Is anyone here old enough to remember when TV’s first started becoming a common household item?

I’m wondering how long it took for the television to become a priority over conversation. Like, how it became acceptable to say, “Quiet, I can’t hear the TV”.

I'd say about the time there were more viewing options. When it was B&W and three channels not much to choose from so people talked.
